Here’s an interesting new finding that caught my eyes the other day as reported in the Science World Report, source through Benita Matilda. It read: breast cancer patients fail to meet physical activity guidelines. According to the report, it said that the new finding documented in the journal Cancer, highlights the need to enhance the efforts to promote physical activity among patients diagnosed with breast cancer.
It was noticed that despite the fact that physical activity helps improve quality of life, most women who were a part of the breast cancer study failed to meet the national physical activity guidelines.
No surprise here to find that the study point to a rather disturbing fact that African-American women was a whopping 40 percent less likely to live up to the physical activity guidelines compared to white women, and although this study did not point to any other culture, I would assume that 40 percent amongst any other group is still quite alarming.
It also reveal that due to this lack of activity within the guidelines, African-American experience a higher mortality from breast cancer than other groups in the U.S. It seems to me that drastic steps need adhere to in order to get on even keel with white women as far as breast cancer is concern.
There is also another disturbing study carried out on some 89,000 women who ate red meat that this increased their risk for breast cancer by a staggering 25% according to lead researcher Maryam Farvid, who’s with the Harvard School of Public Health’s Department of Nutrition. “Cutting down processed meat, limiting intake of red meat, and substituting a combination of poultry, fish, legumes and nuts as protein sources for meat during early life seems beneficial for the prevention of breast cancer,” said the researcher.
Compared with women who had one serving of red meat a week, those who ate 1.5 serving a day appeared to have a 22% higher risk of breast cancer. And each additional daily serving of red meat seemed to increase the risk of breast cancer another 13%. Well that certainly is an eye opener in a time when a great percentage of both young and older women are not following wellness guidelines.
The good news is that eating more poultry, according to the study will lowered the risk of breast cancer. Substituting one serving a day of poultry for one serving a day of red meat reduced the risk of breast cancer by a more manageable 17% overall and by 22 % among postmenopausal women, the researchers found.
“Decreasing consumption of red meat and replacing it with other healthy dietary sources of protein, such as chicken, turkey, fish, beans, lentils, peas and nuts, may have important public health implications,” said Farvid. “Reduction of red meat intake in the diet not only decreases the risk of breast cancer but also decreases the risk of other chronic diseases, such as coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other kind of cancers.
That is anyway you looked at it is top-notch information worthwhile to your own personal health, as so too to your whole family. Combined that knowledge with physical activity and you’ll be well on your way to a quality of life that will out lived others. So let us talk some more about activities.
What is being discuss here is about physical activity, even though it is worth pointing out that the higher mortality have a direct correlation to poverty, especially towards black woman who are not receiving the same care and attention as white women or other well off groups..
An African-American woman who work two or three jobs plus home duties, and whether single or married just do not have the luxury of free time to take up other activities, then there are the overall cost. Surely, an African-American female really do not need a study to point out to her that she’s not following physical activity guidelines.
In my opinion, she is fully aware of her health needs but circumstances are preventing her from taking the steps to improve the most important thing in her life. And that is her health. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services including the American Cancer Society, it is necessary for the adults to adhere to at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity or at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity every week to receive the general health benefits and to manage the chronic disease.
“Because it’s important to understand whether there is capacity for improvement in the physical activity levels of women with breast cancer,” said Brionna Hair, a doctoral candidate in epidemiology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In this population-based study, the researchers assessed the pre and pro diagnosis physical activity levels in 1,735 women of ages 20-74 years all of whom were diagnosed with invasive breast cancer between 2008 and 2011 in 44 different counties of North Carolina.
On analyzing the data of the participants, they observed that just 35 percent of the breast cancer survivors adhered to the present physical activity guidelines post diagnosis. In 59 percent of the patients, the researchers noticed a drop in activity six months after being diagnosed. On an average they reduced the activity by 15 metabolic equivalent hours. “Medical care providers should discuss the role physical activity plays in improving breast cancer outcomes with their patients, and strategies that may be successful in increasing physical activity among breast cancer patients need to be comprehensively evaluated and implemented,” said Hair.
So the whole point is that commonsense approach to ones health should be at the forefront of your daily life. What is missing from the findings is the importance of the early age education to young girls, and especially to African-American on the morality percentage, and that physical activity and proper dieting could go along way in reducing their risk of breast cancer.
Naturally, the magic word that I would want to hear is an affordable cure from breast cancer to women not only in the US but to much poorer countries have been found. That magic word “cure” is missing from all these thousands of researches, study’s, findings, and more clinical study’s and treatment.
As I’ve said before, I’d believe that these multi-billion dollar businesses do not want to find a cure for breast cancer. So in the meantime you will be best serve for a healthier you to get your physical activity in motion, while at the same time staying away from red meat, or take it in moderation. …God bless and keep you healthy along life’s journey to a quality of life. … Appreciates you. …_END_.
